Brooklyn Back in the Day

Through Monday, July 7, at Henry Gregg Gallery, located at 111 Front Street in Brooklyn, N.Y. This group photography exhibit includes work by Tony Velez, a professor in the Department of Fine Arts. Featured are photographs from two projects Velez made in the 1980s. The first one consists of his Los Pioneros portraits, which capture the first Puerto Ricans to settle in Brooklyn. Velez collaborated on the work with the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College. The second body of work was commissioned by the Brooklyn Historical Society and was their first project on Hispanic Brooklyn, resulting in a yearlong exhibition and publication.
