Artist Statement
Gloria Kennedy
I am a ceramic artist, and have focused solely on making hand-built ceramics for more than twenty years. I love the mystery of the clay. I like to make things that are recognized forms, and also pieces that don’t exist in reality otherwise. There are no hard rules in ceramics. I start with a standard clay body or a published glaze and then I break an infinite number of rules and make an infinite number of combinations to see what else is possible besides what has already been done. I thrive on the fact that no piece of work, no matter how beloved or successful, can ever be exactly replicated.
Ceramics have found a place in every home from prehistoric caves to today’s mansions. Consider beauty, form and utility, what could be more perfect? Creating a ceramic vessel whether functional or aesthetic is like no other experience in life.
