About theArtist
The photography of Mark Blanchette has been collected and exhibited in museums and galleries throughout North America and abroad. His work has received numerous awards, and he has participated in many prestigious art festivals, including repeated exhibitions in Disney’s Festival of the Masters. Mark works exclusively with black and white film and utilizes a conventional wet darkroom to create his surreal images. The images are designed to allow the viewer to find their own interpretations of the meaning or message depicted in the content. The conclusion is oftentimes a reflection upon the individual’s own personality. Mark is quoted, “I truly believe that if my art has generated any type of emotional response from the viewer, then my work is justified.”
Technique Mark utilizes both 35mm and 2 ¼ inch film formats. All processing, printing and photo manipulation is done in a conventional darkroom. Each Photomontage is created individually by hand in an edition of only 10 prints in just one size. Due to the images being created individually, photomontages within an edition will contain subtle differences in the image blending. Thus every photomontage is an original piece of art. Prints numbered 1 through 9 are made available for purchase with the image retiring upon the sale of the 9th print in the edition. Number 10 of each edition is kept by the artist for museum, gallery and private exhibitions. Two artist proofs may be released for purchase after the edition has retired. Mark has begun creating a series of large photomontages in which there is no editions. Only the one original photomontage is created. Due to the size of the pieces, duplication of the images utilizing Mark’s technique is not possible
